What is EXIF data, and why does it matter?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata your camera or phone embeds inside every photo: GPS coordinates, device model, capture time, ISO, aperture, sometimes camera serial numbers. It rides along with the image file when you upload it anywhere.

Why should I strip EXIF before listing on a marketplace?

GPS coordinates can leak your home or warehouse address to anyone who downloads your product image. Device fingerprints can be used to correlate listings across multiple stores. Most sellers don't realize their phone has been embedding their location in every product shot.

Does removing EXIF change my image quality?

No. We re-encode at the original format's highest quality (JPEG 95, PNG lossless, WebP 90). Visually the cleaned image is indistinguishable from the original.

JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg), PNG, and WebP. RAW files (CR2, NEF, ARW, DNG) need to be exported to one of these first.

Does this also strip IPTC and XMP metadata?

Yes. The underlying library (sharp) drops everything except the actual pixel data on re-encode. EXIF, IPTC, XMP, ICC color profiles, edit history — all gone.

Are my images saved on your servers?

No. Anonymous uploads are processed entirely in memory. We receive the file, strip the metadata, send back the cleaned version, and discard the buffer. Nothing is written to disk or database.

No — but the original file on your device is untouched. Only the downloaded copy has metadata removed. Keep the original if you ever need the EXIF for archival or photography records.

No. EXIF is metadata, not pixels. A visible watermark printed onto the actual image will remain. To add a tiled anti-theft watermark, use the Watermark tool.
