Why does alt text matter?

(2) Screen readers read alt text to blind/low-vision users — accessibility compliance (WCAG, India's Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act) requires non-decorative images to have meaningful alt text.

What's the ideal alt-text length?

60-125 characters. Under 60 is too sparse to be useful; over 125 gets truncated by Google's image-search snippet. The model targets that range and surfaces a live char count so you can see when you're in the sweet spot.

Should alt text contain keywords?

Accepted Answer

Yes — but naturally, not stuffed. Lead with the most important keyword (typically the product type), then describe the visible context. Adding the product name to the form gives the model better keyword grounding.

Why not start with "Image of" or "Picture of"?

Accepted Answer

Screen readers automatically announce that the element is an image — saying "Image of bamboo toothbrush" reads as "Image, image of bamboo toothbrush" to users. Just say "Bamboo toothbrush…" The model is prompted to skip those phrases.

Can I bulk-generate alt text for many images?

Accepted Answer

Currently one image at a time per credit (1 credit = 1 image). Bulk-image alt-text is on the Studio-tier roadmap — paste a folder, get a CSV of file → alt text. Email if you need this sooner.

Will the AI describe brand names or text in the image?

Accepted Answer

Yes — visible text and brand-marks ARE described if relevant. The model has been instructed to include them naturally ("Adidas Stan Smith white sneakers, classic green heel tab") rather than ignore them.

Does alt text affect Amazon / Flipkart / Meesho rankings?

Less directly than Google image search, because marketplace product pages typically don't expose alt text to their internal search. But Google indexes those pages too — clean alt text helps your marketplace product pages show up in Google image searches for related keywords.

Is it OK to leave decorative images without alt text?

Yes — for purely decorative images (background patterns, separators), use empty alt (`alt=""`) so screen readers skip them. Only product photos and meaningful imagery need real alt text.

Images are sent to Anthropic for vision inference and are NOT stored on our servers — we don't persist the upload after the response is sent back. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to the inference call itself; review their policy at anthropic.com/privacy.
